| PLAYER DESCRIPTION |
 |
I was introduced to the game of paintball when I was 17, back in 1988. One of my friends had heard about it and convinced a few of us to go. I'm glad he did. I believe that the field is called Black Knight Paintball, located just outside of Mt. Uniacke Nova Scotia.
I started out with a Brass Eagle Nightmare. Back then BE made a quality product and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one again.
Do I miss the old days of playing? Yeah, I do. Back then your reputaion as an honest player was far more important that the numer of games you've won. Cheating happened but it wasn't glorified the way it seems to be today. Many electronic markers now have standard boards that were sold and labeled as cheater boards.
I remember looking up to Dave Youngblood (Yes the guy that owns DYE) and seeing him on the cover of Action Pursuit games magazine in his suit. He inspired me to become better at stealth and rely less on camo.
I rember seeing a guy in a ghillie for the first time and thinking he was a nut job and that we were doing to die, the fact that he had a Tippammn SMG-68 had nothing to do with it. It took a couple of games to get used to how loud it was and then we figured out he had to reload. This helped me realize how importnat tactics were to the game. Me and 4 friends made it our job to eliminate him after every game. He was easy to find on the field by sound alone and the Co2 cloud helped negate his ghille. Once we found him one of us would chage head on and 2 teams of 2 would flank him on both sides. We'd lose no more 2 guys before we tagged him.
I remember a game where I should have been hit and probably would be lit up today. We were assaulting a building. My friend and I were on the other side of the tree line in what we thought was a field. It wasn't taped off so it was legal to be there. Unfortunately it was more of a bog than a field. My friend took a wrong step and sank to his waist. I made sure he was OK between bursts of laughter. Half of the other team showed up to see what was so funny. Some gave me a hand to pull him out, the others were laughing. No one took a shot. Today I wouldn't be so confident in that. Too many people "play to win at any cost".
I remeber my first indoor game. The field owner allowed me to bowwor a CCI Phantom. This was back in 1989/90. I fell in love with it. I wanted one then and still want one now.
I've played with mech semis. The first one I got to use was a BE Barracuda. The same guy that got me into paintball bought it. I liked the idea of it, but I still prefered a pump. After watching all his problems with his 'cuda I knew i didnt want one. I lucked out not long after and was able to shoot a VM68. Now I had 2 dream markers to get.
I'm a retro grouch. I dislike the electronic markers and I'd kill for a CCI Phantom, Tippmann SL-68II or a VM68.
I'm quiet. So quiet that people usually forget I'm in the same room. I prefer to have my actions speak for me.
I'm an admin on the Special Ops forum.
I am Canadian.
